Water and Food Security International Conference

The International Conference on “Water and Food Security” will take place 9-10 February in Seville, Spain. Alberto Fraguas, Executive Director of Green Cross Spain, will speak at the event on effective water management and development of efficienct policies related to food security as well as the adoption of mitigation and adaptation policies to climate change as key instruments for global security.

The conference is organised by the Deputation of Seville and the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI) with the support of the Federation of NGOs for Development of Seville, the Andalusian Agency for International Cooperation and Development, the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation, the Spanish Federation for Municipalities and Provinces and the Provincial Water Consortium.

The Conference will discuss the fight for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals while being aware of the impact of water and food security on achieving the goals. Hunger and malnutrition in developing countries is a problem with the will get even worse if the current circumstances do not change. Investment in rural development food security and water can contribute to the alleviation of this problem.

This Conference will allow universities, business and civil society to share knowledge and come to joint conclusions that could be passed onto towns around the world to develop in a sustainable way.

Furthermore, aspects such as rural development, food security, food sovereignty and climate change will be covered. In addition, the Conference will consist of panels and side events about concreted projects on water management and food security,
